[Latest 2025 Edition] New Zealand: Investment + Resident Visa Guide

New Zealand has recently unveiled new investment visa category: Business Investor Visa, offering an attractive proposition for those seeking a safe, work-life-balance with a favorable tax scheme (including no inheritance tax). With options in other countries, such as Australia, currently limited, New Zealand stands out as an excellent choice.

This article outlines the key relocation options by their brief requirements, investment amounts, and eligible investment types.

1. Active Investor Plus Visa

Introduced in April, this new policy has gathered significant interest, replacing the older scheme which required higher investments (NZD 5-15 million), had narrower investment options, and mandated English competency.

The initial wave of applications originated from the US, with China a distant second. New Zealand authorities have observed growing interest from Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and other Asian and European countries, with over 100 applications already approved in principle within five months.

2. Business Investor Visa

The Immigration New Zealand has introduced the new Business Investor Visa, opening in November. This category replaces the less efficient entrepreneur work visa scheme and encourages experienced investors to invest in and operate established businesses.

3. Parent Retirement Visa

This option is designed for parents who have an adult child with New Zealand residency or citizenship. It allows parents to invest in lower-risk funds, such as bonds, with a significantly lower investment amount (one-tenth of the Active Investor Plus requirements).
